Europe House celebrated International Women’s Day with a campaign called “Eco Heroines.” This campaign is dedicated to Montenegrin entrepreneurs and activists who are shaping a sustainable future through their ecological businesses and projects.
Mia Pejović (Atelier “Propuh”), Jelena Rakčević (NGO Green Wave), Milena Đukanović (Miđu Accessories), Nada Tadić (Duga Toys), and Milena Živković (Mental Ecology) – These five women shared their experiences with Young European Ambassador, Selda Jahjagić.
Through an inspiring discussion, they shared how they turned their green ideas into sustainable initiatives and spoke about the challenges they encountered while navigating this path in Montenegrin society.
Mia Pejović presented “ecography,” the artistic fusion of craftsmanship and ecology. By manufacturing organic paper and natural dyes, Mia celebrates Montenegro’s cultural heritage and biodiversity. “Nature does not produce excess—this is the principle that I follow,” Mia emphasised.
Jelena Rakčević from the NGO Green Wave highlighted that recycling is a necessity and a way of life. She praised cooperation with the EU through projects such as “Green Ambassadors” and “Digital Guide for Creating Green Initiatives.” These projects contribute to raising sustainability awareness.
Milena Đukanović has combined science, design, and ecology through 3D-printed jewellery, using recycled materials to promote the country’s cultural and natural heritage.
Nada Tadić is a passionate mountaineer and founder of Duga Toys. Her contribution to environmental preservation is her creation of handmade toys crafted from natural materials.
Milena Živković, through “Mental Ecology,” merges art and sustainability. She believes that art is a game that recycles the imperfect image of the world. “We are all invited to take part,” Milena stated.
The Eco Heroines are unique in their mission. Through green initiatives, they promote environmental protection, nature, culture, and Montenegro’s history while also emphasising the need for continuous engagement on both individual and systemic levels.
