Emotional Literacy Training at Europe House marks the start of the Mental Health Awareness Week
Europe House marked the start of the Mental Health Awareness Week with the first workshop in the series, “Emotional Literacy Training.”
Following the workshop, which focused on the fundamentals of emotional literacy and the concept of ego states, we spoke with psychologist and psychotherapist Milena Žujović.
Milena pointed out participants’ motivation and openness to sharing experiences.
“A fantastic dynamic and atmosphere were created. It was a real pleasure working with such a group,” said Milena.
The Emotional Literacy Training is designed to address the most important questions related to emotional exchange over six sessions, using the core concepts of Transactional Analysis.
“The first workshop covered topics related to the basics of emotional literacy and the concept of ego states. This concept allows us to observe our inner world from a different perspective. It offers participants a profound understanding of themselves and the origins of their emotions, through a simple illustration,” explained Milena.
When asked what it truly means to be emotionally literate and how important it is to cultivate emotional literacy, Milena responded that, within this context, the concept is best described by Claude Steiner, who said:
“Emotional literacy is emotional intelligence rooted in love.”
“I believe that being emotionally literatemeans we know how to communicate openly, particularly when it involves emotional exchange,” Milena added.
According to her, emotional literacy is a skill that can be learned, which is why programmes and initiatives like this are so important—they give people the chance to hear something new that might help them on their path of personal growth.
“It’s essential to nurture emotional literacy because it leads to a more authentic way of living,” Milena concluded.
To mark Mental Health Awareness Week, Europe House launched a series of workshops dedicated to emotional literac from 19 May to 27 June 2025.
This educational series is intended for the general public, especially young people who wish to gain a deeper understanding of emotions, improve everyday communication, and develop emotional skills vital for personal and professional growth.
Each workshop lasts 150 minutes and takes place in a trusting environment that encourages openness, reflection, and exchange.
ČEK it out. Thursdays at Europe House are your opportunity to turn emotions into a tool for better everyday living.
