Digital Transformation with EU Support through MONTEDIH

MONTEDIH (Montenegrin Digital Innovation Hub) is a four-year project aimed at supporting the digital transformation of small and medium-sized enterprises, public institutions, and start-ups in Montenegro through the application of cutting-edge digital technologies.

With the support of the European Union and the German Government, within the EU4Digital project, MONTEDIH contributes to strengthening regional and European cooperation.

“By joining forces across digital hubs, we are enhancing the capacities of companies and institutions to respond to increasingly dynamic market challenges,” said Tanja Bošković, Head of the project at GIZ Montenegro.

The project is implemented by the University of Montenegro, together with its partners: the Chamber of Commerce of Montenegro, the University of Donja Gorica (UDG), the Institute for Contemporary Technologies, ICT Cortex, Technopolis and the Centre for Finance.

Focus on Advanced Technologies

The key mission of MONTEDIH is to enable digital transformation based on technologies recognised as strategically important at the European level.

“This is precisely where the key difference lies between MONTEDIH and traditional innovation hubs – our focus is on advanced technologies,” emphasised Prof. Dr Igor Radusinović from the University of Montenegro.

Two-Way Collaboration with Industry and Public Administration

MONTEDIH serves as a platform for two-way communication among the consortium, small and medium-sized enterprises, and the public administration.

On the one hand, users are offered concrete services, expertise, and experience in developing digital innovation solutions. On the other hand, public-sector partners provide valuable insights into the real challenges they face.

Artificial intelligence and machine learning are particularly effective in situations where organisations possess large amounts of data that require significant human effort to process.

“The efficient application of artificial intelligence can greatly improve work performance and reduce the need for extensive human input,” added Dr Radusinović.

MONTEDIH is part of a network of more than 150 European Digital Innovation Hubs (EDIHs).

Micro, small and medium-sized enterprises, start-ups and public institutions may apply for support through MONTEDIH. “Users can expect support in the form of a wide range of services available through MONTEDIH,” explained Dr Slavica Tomović from the University of Montenegro.

These services are divided into four categories: training and education, technology testing prior to investment, assistance in accessing national and European funding sources, and networking with relevant stakeholders.
“We help users identify and utilise different sources of funding for digital transformation projects, both through national and European programmes,” noted Dr Tomović.

MONTEDIH is the first officially recognised digital innovation hub in Montenegro – a place where companies can access digital solutions, knowledge, technology, and new business opportunities.
“Make the most of the talent, knowledge, technology, and partnerships MONTEDIH offers and elevate your business,” Bošković encouraged.

The project is funded by the European Union and the German Government, and implemented by GIZ through the EU4Digital project. The total project budget amounts to € 2 million.
