Poetry Competition on the Theme “ An Ode to a European City”

On the occasion of the European Day of Languages, celebrated on 26 September, Europe House is launching a competition for pupils of Podgorica primary schools on the theme “An Ode to a European City”.

I COMPETITION THEME

The competition invites pupils to write a poem celebrating European values, languages, culture and the unique character of an EU city they have visited or would like to visit.

Entries must be original works written in the local language and must include at least a title, line of verse or short passage in one of the official languages of the EU.

For passages in one of the official EU languages, participants are particularly encouraged to use languages that are less commonly taught.

II AIM OF THE COMPETITION

The aim of the competition is to give primary school pupils an opportunity to expand their knowledge of the EU, express their thoughts and emotions, and celebrate shared European values.

III GENERAL INFORMATION

  • The competition is open to primary school pupils in grades 7, 8, and 9.
  • Each pupil may submit only one entry.
  • Entries must not have been previously published, printed or awarded a prize.
  • Entries must not exceed 1,000 characters, including spaces.
  • The use of AI tools is not permitted when writing the entry.
  • Entries must include the pupil’s full name, school, address and contact telephone number.

IV PRIZES

Valuable prizes will be awarded to the three best entries. The prizes will be presented to the winners at the European Day of Languages celebration at Europe House Podgorica on 25 September 2026 at 10:00.

On the same day, the winners will have the opportunity to read their entries aloud.

V AWARD CRITERIA

Entries will be assessed according to the following criteria:

  1. Content and message;
  2. Creativity and originality – expressiveness, imagination and an authentic approach to the theme.

The competition jury will consist of three members.

VI DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSIONS

Submit entries no later than 15 September 2026.
