On the occasion of the European Day of Languages, celebrated on 26 September, Europe House is launching a competition for secondary school students from Bar, Budva, Ulcinj, Kotor, Herceg Novi and Tivat on the theme “Ode to a European City”.
I. SUBJECT OF THE COMPETITION
The competition invites participants to write a poem celebrating European values, languages, culture and unique character of an EU city they have visited or would like to visit.
Entries must be original works written in the local language and must contain at least a title, a verse or a short passage in one of the official languages of the EU.
For passages in an official EU language, participants are particularly encouraged to use languages that are less commonly studied.
II. AIM OF THE COMPETITION
The aim of the competition is to give secondary school students an opportunity to expand their knowledge of the EU, express their thoughts and emotions, and celebrate our shared European values.
III. GENERAL INFORMATION
- Students in the first and second years of secondary school are eligible to participate.
- Each student may submit only one entry.
- The literary work must not have been previously published, printed or awarded a prize.
- The literary work must not exceed 1,000 characters, including spaces.
- The use of AI tools is not permitted when writing the entry.
- Entries must include the participant’s first and last name, school, address and contact telephone number.
IV. PRIZES
Valuable prizes will be awarded to the authors of the three best entries. The prizes will be presented at the European Day of Languages celebration at Europe House Bar on 25 September 2026 at 11:00 AM.
On the same day, the winners will have the opportunity to read their entries aloud.
V. AWARD CRITERIA
Entries will be assessed according to the following criteria:
- Content and message
- Creativity and originality – expressiveness, imagination and an authentic approach to the theme.
The competition jury will consist of three members.
VI. DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSION
Entries must be submitted no later than 15 September 2026.
