MONTENEGRO CELEBRATES EUROPE DAY

The Delegation of the European Union to Montenegro and the Ministry of European Affairs are marking the Month of Europe

The Delegation of the European Union to Montenegro and the Ministry of European Affairs, with the support of EU projects Europe House, EU4ME, and EU for Municipalities, are marking the Month of Europe across Montenegro through a wide range of activities running from 3 to 30 May. This year’s celebration aims to bring European values closer to all citizens—through art, culture, education, play, and environmental actions.

The central celebration of Europe Day will be held on 10 May in Podgorica. This event will be organised by Europe House in partnership with the Capital City. An EU fair will take place in the University Park, where embassies of EU Member States, numerous European projects, ministries, local governments, and producers will showcase their activities. As a gift to all citizens on Europe Day, a concert by the popular band Perper will be held at Independence Square on 10 May at 8 pm.

The day before, under the patronage of the Delegation of the European Union to Montenegro, the symphony orchestra will perform a pre-premiere of the symphony “Europe” by the acclaimed Montenegrin guitar duo Bulatović-Nikčević at the Music Centre.

Through the EU4ME project and in cooperation with local governments, the Ministry of European Affairs is organising an educational and sports programme for children titled “European Tour – Games Without Frontiers”, to take place in Nikšić, Žabljak, Pljevlja, Berane, Petnjica, and Bar from 9 to 20 May. The competition is intended for 7 and 8 grade pupils from local Elementary schools. Through games combining physical, mental, and educational challenges, children will learn about the European Union and its values, develop team spirit, and promote healthy lifestyles.

Ministers and government representatives, senior officials from European institutions, embassies of EU member states, and well-known athletes from the host towns will attend these events. Citizens are invited to join the celebration, support the participants, and cheer for their favourites.

The “EU for Municipalities” project, in cooperation with the municipalities of Andrijevica, Plav, Danilovgrad, Bijelo Polje, Plužine, Tivat, Ulcinj, Herceg Novi, Gusinje, Rožaje, Kotor, Tuzi, Šavnik, Cetinje, Budva, Mojkovac, and Kolašin, will gift a rich programme to the citizens of Montenegro. This programme includes environmental actions, fairs, knowledge quizzes, art workshops, sports competitions, cultural events, and the promotion of European cultural heritage.

The celebration begins on 3 May in Kolašin with the Biogradska Gora Vertical Race. It concludes on 30 May in Mojkovac with the “Zlatni Ćemer” folklore festival—symbolically rounding off a month of celebration and European unity.
