At the second session of the series “EU Days at EH Bar– Get to Know the EU”, we discussed environmental protection, 🌿 addressing the challenges and opportunities in waste and wastewater management in the municipalities of Bar and Ulcinj.
Participants highlighted issues such as illegal landfills, the limited capacity of the Možura site, and the need for systemic solutions in line with European standards, as outlined in Chapter 27, Environment and Climate Change.
“This is a very challenging area, but the EU is actively supporting awareness-raising through initiatives such as the eco campaign @cuvaj.me_, as well as through investments and projects that contribute to sustainable development,” said Riccardo Serri, Deputy Head of the Delegation of the EU to Montenegro.

“Funding opportunities and applications for equipment and machinery through the EU programmes are available. According to estimates, by 2035, investments in this area will amount to more than 3 billion euros,” stated Ana Živanović, Head of the Project Management Department of the Municipality of Bar.
Biljana Papović, State Secretary at the Ministry of European Affairs, announced new legislation on waste management, which will cover classification, storage, and export of waste, as well as precisely define the obligations of communities and institutions.
The event concluded with a message that greater environmental awareness among citizens and stronger institutional cooperation are necessary for Montenegro to address environmental protection challenges successfully.
