EU4Green Launches Green Journalism Award in the Western Balkans

Journalists across the Western Balkans are invited to participate in the Green Journalism Award, an initiative that recognisesoutstanding reporting on environmental protection and the region’s green transition.

The award aims to stimulate public debate, encourage quality journalism, and highlight the role of the media in implementing the Green Agenda for the Western Balkans. The competition covers all six Western Balkan economies, including Serbia, and is open to published works that bring citizens closer to the challenges and opportunities of the green transition.

The author of the best-rated work will receive a Professional Certificate in Environmental Journalism, an online course organised by the London School of International Business (LSIB), lasting from one to two months. In addition, the winner will gain international visibility through EU4Green’s communication channels.

Eligibility
Submissions may include journalistic works — TV reports, radio features, online formats or written articles — published between 1 January and 1 October 2025. Entries must originate from one of the six Western Balkan economies and may be in a local language or in English. Works in local languages must also be translated into English.

Topics
Entries should address one or more themes related to the Green Agenda for the Western Balkans and its impact on citizens, including: clean air, water and soil; biodiversity and nature; sustainable agriculture and food; the green and circular economy and green finance; climate action (mitigation, adaptation, community resilience). Cross-sectoral approaches (inclusion, gender equality, social justice) are also encouraged.

How to Apply
The competition is open from 30 September to 9 October 2025. Journalists or authorised media representatives should send their work to contact@eu4green.eu, (Subject: “For the Green Journalism Award”). Each submission must include details of the author, the date of publication, and a link or copy of the published work. A maximum of three entries per candidate is allowed.

A professional jury will assess submissions based on their relevance, depth of coverage, originality, public impact, and adherence to ethical standards. The winner will be announced after the evaluation process is completed. The open call and competition rules are available at the link: Green Journalism Award_EU4Green.
