The Municipality of Bar has successfully completed the installation of a modern free parking space detection system as part of the European CITYMOVE project, marking a significant step towards more efficient traffic management and an improved quality of life for residents.
The CITYMOVE project, worth almost €1.6 million, is co-financed by the European Union through the Interreg IPA ADRION Programme. The Municipality of Bar is the lead partner, working alongside partners from seven countries to develop innovative solutions for sustainable urban mobility, with the aim of creating more efficient, safer and higher-quality urban transport for all citizens.
The new system provides drivers with real-time information on available parking spaces in Branka Čalovića Street and Maršala Tita Street.
Information on parking space availability is available on the Parking Service Bar website at https://parkingservisbar.me/slobodna-mjesta/ and is now also displayed on six newly installed LED information boards throughout the area.The system covers 245 parking spaces and is based on a network of smart sensors that communicate wirelessly with central software and a newly equipped monitoring centre at Parking Service Bar.
“The introduction of this system represents the first pilot smart parking management initiative in the Municipality of Bar and an important step towards developing modern, sustainable and digitally connected transport. Timely information on available parking spaces enables more efficient use of existing parking capacity,” the Municipality of Bar stated.
The Municipality also announced plans for a second phase of the parking system’s development, which will include the installation of approximately 250 additional parking sensors. Funding for this phase will be provided from the Municipality’s budget.
