Living Large means living a life of dreams and imagination. The one who’s Living Large refuses to conform to imposed norms. It is lived by free people who believe in themselves and accept themselves for who they are.
Living Largeis a 2024 stop-motion animation film directed by Kristina Dufková. It tells the story of twelve-year-old Ben Pipetka, who experiences bullying because of his weight. Ben sets out to lose weight, win the affection of a girl, and learn to accept himself for who he is.
As part of the European Film Festival, Europe House, in cooperation with the Film Centre of Montenegro, organised a film camp for children at Europe House in Podgorica. During the camp, children from the multidisciplinary educational centre Urban Kids enjoyed this Czech animated feature.
Ahead of the screening, animator Mato Uljarević gave a short talk on animation.
“Today, we spoke with the children about the importance of animation, the creative process itself, drawing and imagination. Animation is, in essence, a highly significant field that will become increasingly prominent in the future as a form of expression within the creative industries,” said Uljarević.
He emphasised that, for the future of Montenegro’s creative community, it is essential that children are introduced to animation from an early age.
“Animation should not be seen as a mystery. Unfortunately, our education system still does not devote enough attention to animation, particularly in practical terms. However, I sincerely hope this will improve in the future,” Uljarević concluded.
Throughout July, the European Film Festival continues its journey across Montenegro with screenings in Mojkovac (Peacock), Ulcinj (It All Ends Here), and Gusinje (My Dad’s Lessons). In August, audiences in other towns and cities across Montenegro can also look forward to a rich programme of European films.
The European Film Festival is organised by the Delegation of the European Union to Montenegro, through Europe House, with support from the Cineuropa platform, in partnership with the Film Centre of Montenegro and the Montenegro Cinema Exhibitors Network.
Admission to all screenings is free. All films will be shown in their original language with Montenegrin and English subtitles.
