EU Support for Cultural Heritage: Gradac Receives New Tourist Infrastructure

Tourist facilities at the Gradac archaeological site have been completed as part of the project “InclUSivE HERITAGE – Sustainable Cultural Tourism in Hinterlands”, led by the Polimlje Museum in Berane. The project is being implemented through the Bosnia and Herzegovina – Montenegro Cross-Border Cooperation Programme, with financial support from the European Union.

The Gradac site has been further enhanced by the construction of a panoramic terrace (observation deck) measuring 3.5 x 8 metres and made from high-quality white pine.

“The terrace is equipped with two spacious benches, each 270 cm long, providing comfort and a resting place for all visitors. In addition, an information board has been installed, presenting the natural and cultural values of this exceptional site in a modern and accessible way,” representatives of the Polimlje Museum stated.

As highlighted, special attention was given to the positioning of the terrace – it is located below the architectural remains, thereby uniquely integrating the natural landscape with Gradac’s rich cultural heritage.

“This solution allows visitors to enjoy views of unspoilt nature while directly experiencing the history of the site, as the terrace points to both spatial segments simultaneously. The new facilities significantly enhance the visitor experience at Gradac, elevating the quality of the tourist offer and making the site even more attractive to lovers of history, nature and active recreation. The panoramic terrace and information board complement the archaeological site, creating a space where the past and the present meet in the best possible way,” the Polimlje Museum added.

The project “InclUSivE HERITAGE – Sustainable Cultural Tourism in Hinterlands” aims to develop sustainable, inclusive tourism, improve accessibility, and promote cultural heritage in rural areas.

“Thanks to the support of the European Union, Gradac is becoming an example of how modern standards can be successfully applied in the valorisation and protection of local heritage. We appeal to all visitors and citizens to preserve the new panoramic terrace, the information board and the entire site, so that Gradac remains a place of meeting, learning and enjoyment for present and future generations,” representatives of the Polimlje Museum emphasised.
